choosing your tiles

Homogeneous tiles

A type of porcelain tile with a consistent composition throughout the entire tile. This means that the color and texture of the front, back, and sides of the tile are the same. Homogeneous tiles are more durable and resistant to wear than ceramic tiles, making them a good choice for high-traffic areas.

Homogeneous tiles are a type of full-body porcelain tile, meaning the color runs throughout the material. They are water-resistant and stain-resistant, and can be used in most rooms of the house.

Durability

Homogeneous tiles are very durable and resistant to scratches, stains, fading, and chemicals. They can withstand harsh weather and temperatures, making them suitable for both indoor and outdoor use.

Water resistance

Homogeneous tiles have a lower absorption rate than ceramic tiles, making them water-resistant and suitable for damp areas like kitchens, bathrooms, and outdoor patios.

Installation

Homogeneous tiles are a good choice for floor tiling installations. For bathrooms, non-slip homogeneous tiles can be used to make the space safer for children and the elderly.

porcelain tiles

Porcelain tiles are generally denser and less porous than ceramic tiles, making them more durable. They are also suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. However, glazed porcelain tiles have a layer of glaze applied to the surface, which can wear and tear over time.

Suitability

Porcelain is more durable, scratch and stain resistant, and less porous than ceramic. It's ideal for wet areas like showers and patios, as well as high-traffic areas like kitchens. Porcelain is also a good choice for external use.

Visible wear and tear

The glossy finish of porcelain tiles can show signs of wear and tear more prominently, such as water marks, footprints, and scratches.

Cleaning

Cleaners that contain ammonia or bleach can damage or discolor the tile quality. Oil-based or wax-based cleaners should also be avoided.

Ceramic tiles

Usually recommended for interior walls and floors, or areas with light foot traffic.Ceramic tiles are porous and less water-resistant than porcelain tiles. Ceramic tiles are not suitable for outdoor use.

Ceramic tiles are more prone to cracking and chipping than other tiles because of their lower density.

Water resistance

Ceramic tiles are porous and less water-resistant, so they are not suitable for wet areas.

Suitability

Ceramic is less durable than porcelain, but it's still hardwearing and resistant to wear and tear. It's suitable for most residential applications, especially for walls like bathroom walls or kitchen walls.
